The Vestry Handbook was first published in 1988 and a revised edition was published in 2000. Over that span of time it has sold nearly 90,000 copies and continues to sell well each year.
Inevitably, such a working guidebook becomes out of date if not revised at regular intervals. The Canons of the church change and new issues confront Vestries.
The author consulted diocesan administrators, other clergy, the Church Deployment Office, and the Church Pension Fund for this timely revision. Canons, resource listings, financial information, continuing education, technology issues, plus how to deal with current tensions in the Anglican Communion.
The Vestry Handbook Third Revised Edition includes discussion of additional subjects such as sexual misconduct and safe-church training and a myriad of other spot revisions.
Excellent resource guide!
I have made several purchases from Episcopal Bookstore. This is a great place to shop for all things Episcopalian. My order was shipped and received very fast. I highly recommend this store.
I found an earlier edition of Webber's book to be quite helpful when I first ventured to serve on Vestry years ago, and again when I became a warden. So when my daughter was elected for the first time at her home parish, I gave her this updated version. It's still relevant, and this version is up to date. Highly recommended.
Every vestry person should receive a copy of this handbook upon being installed. Not only is the handbook invaluable as to the role of a vestry member, it also covers fiscal, property, insurance, and search committee responsibilities. The handbook assists in guidance on interpersonal skills and ones own spirital journey. The handbook also supplies other resources to make the journey of a vestry person fluid.
