"Wanted to purchase Episcopal Church Kalendars for 2009. Had some questions as to which of the two versions of the Kalendar would be suit my needs. John was as helpful as he could possibly be - e-mailed me twice with info about the Kalendars. Once I decided the Kalendars were neatly packaged and promptly shipped. And the price as more than reasonably. Certainly would do business again! Phil"

In this revised and expanded best seller of Jesus, the Bible, and Homosexuality, Rogers argues for equal rights in both the church and society for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgendered people. He describes how he moved away from opposition to that support, charts the church's history of using biblical passages to oppress marginalized groups, argues for a Christ-centered reading of Scripture, debunks stereotypes about gays and lesbians, and explores texts used most frequently against homosexuals and gay ordination.

The Appendix (approx. 10 pages) describes the “Progress toward LGBT Equality in other Denominations in the United States.”
The Appendix is followed by a 30-page Study Guide prepared by David Maxwell.

Great book!

I really enjoyed this book and it was an easy read. While I wished that the author had put some more energy and study into the 1 Corinthians texts, I found his longer study of Romans 1 and his challenge to Gagnon very encouraging. He does a wonderful comparison between today's traditional interpretation of the book of Romans, and what the book actually says. Very convincing arguments made. Also, I enjoyed reading how the PCUSA works as a Church body and how it decides it's church laws, even though I am not Presbyterian. The book ends with a positive note of all the changes occurring in other denominations besides his.

Intriguing, Informative, and Inspiring

This is an excellent read. It provides modern and fair interpretations of biblical passages typically used against people who are LGBT (and also mentions passages that were used in the past to justify oppression against blacks and women). A bit of the book has to do with the technicalities of the Presbyterian Church (USA), since it is written by a Presbyterian and was originally intended to cause change in the PC(USA). I skipped a chapter and skimmed another since it didn't apply, but the rest is excellent for any Christian, regardless of denomination. P.S. The PC(USA) just recently passed a bill that will allow anybody to be a deacon, elder or minister of God's Word and Sacrament regardless of marital status or sexual orientation :-)
