All too often, the time spent as a deacon is simply seen as a transitional stage on the way to priestly ordination. Yet the diaconate is one of the three biblical orders of ministry, integral to the Church from its earliest days, and having its own distinctive characteristics and responsibilities. Being a Deacon Today draws together insights from scripture, tradition and preset day experience to offer a renewed vision of the calling and role of deacons in the Church today. It is intended for those called to a distinctive ministry as a deacon, those for whom diaconal ministry is an essential part of priestly ministry.

Very enlightening and informative

I found this book to be very enlightening; Rosalind brown really does an 'in-depth' look at the deaconate. I am in the process of discernment, so I found the topics covered to be very informative. Ms. Brown looks at the order from its historical tradition and then ompares with the deacon's duties today. While Ms. Brown's book is written from a Church of England point of veiw; she covers the topic in a very inclusive manner. I got to look at the order as it is practiced by our brothers and sisters in Christ. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the deaconate.
