Taize’ music comes from the worship services at the Taize’ community in Taize’ France. The music is characterized by simple melodies that encourage participation. The songs and hymns are repetitive which also encourages participation and meditation.
There are two general types of music recordings of Taize’ music. One type includes music recorded at the Taize’ community. You may hear the whole community singing in the background on these recordings. The other type includes performances of choirs, often in church buildings. We have noticed that the choir performances in churches are somewhat more accurate to the music while those recorded on-site at Taize’ include the flavor and spirituality of the large, participating congregation. The descriptions with each of our recordings may help you know whether it was recorded at Taize’ or in a church building.
